Waste gas emission standards for biomass pellet boiler combustion

07 Dec, 2021

At present, China has not yet formulated the emission standards and pollutant emission testing methods and standards for boilers and kilns that use biomass fuels. Therefore, it is unable to introduce incentive policies to encourage the promotion and application of biomass fuels, and it is difficult to mobilize the use of fossil energy energy companies. The enthusiasm of biomass energy to replace fuels has created a situation of "although the market is large, but the door is closed", which hinders the commercialization and application of biomass molding fuels to replace fossil fuels. However, there is an article "Reply to Opinions Regarding the Definition of Biomass Briquettes", which reads as follows:

biomass pellet boiler

  1. According to the "Regulations Regarding the Classification of Highly Pollutant Fuels" (Huanfa [2001] No. 37), "biomass briquettes" are not classified as highly polluting fuels. In recent years, biomass briquette technology has developed rapidly. With the use of special boilers and supporting bag filters, the emission concentration of pollutants such as smoke, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides is relatively low, which can meet the limit requirements of relevant standards.

  2. In the case of incomplete combustion or abnormal operation of pollution control facilities, biomass briquettes may cause a certain degree of air pollution. Taking into account the inadequacy of clean energy guarantees in the clean energy transformation of coal-fired boilers in some cities, our ministry agrees in principle that under the condition of using special boilers and supporting bag filters, the city government shall decide whether to take into account the actual situation of the administrative region. Allow biomass briquettes to be used in the high-polluting fuel ban area.

  3. Biomass briquettes are renewable energy sources and are a good alternative to coal. Our ministry will work closely with relevant departments to further improve technical standards, policies and regulations, and promote the promotion and use of biomass fuels.
