What causes coking in biomass boiler furnace?

09 Mar, 2022

There are many reasons for coking in the boiler furnace, generally the following:

  (1) The nature of ash. The higher the melting point of ash, the less likely it will coke. Conversely, the lower the melting point, the easier it is to coke.

  (2) The influence of surrounding medium composition on coking is also great. During the combustion process, due to insufficient air supply or poor mixing of fuel and air, the fuel is not completely burned, and the incomplete combustion will generate reducing gas, and the melting point of ash will be greatly reduced.

  (3) Improper operation, so that the flame is deflected or the primary and secondary air are unreasonable, the primary air speed is too high, the particles are not completely burned, and they adhere to the heating surface and continue to burn under the high temperature softening state, forming coking.

  (4) The heat load of the furnace volume is too large. When the boiler runs beyond the power, the furnace temperature is too high, and when the ash particles reach the water-cooled wall surface and the furnace outlet, they cannot be cooled enough, resulting in coking.

  (5) The soot blowing and coke removal are not timely. The wall temperature of the heating surface rises, resulting in serious coking on the heating surface.

Sooting, abrasion, pre-burning arch and hopper are common problems in biomass boilers. Xinli boiler increases the height of the furnace, accelerates the speed of the grate, installs a soot blower in the convection area, and designs an automatic hydraulic ash cleaning system at the bottom of the grate. Such measures have completely solved the above problems and greatly reduced the workload of biomass boiler operation and maintenance personnel.
